Eco Tutorial: Upcycled Shoe Clips

Fat Bottom Upcycled Shoe Clips
Tutorial submitted by Mon Ami Vie

I just finished a tutorial on Instructables.com. The tutorial is actually for a contest they are holding to find upcycled uses for plastic bottles, so it may be something other members would also be interested in pursuing. The first prize is a solar panel backpack which sounds really awesome!

These shoe clips are a decorative accessory made from the bottom of plastic bottles

step 1 Cutting the plastic bottle

First, find a couple of plastic bottles and after washing and cleaning them, cut the bottoms off by pressing the bottle inward and cutting at the seam.

step 2 More cutting, shaping really ;)

Now, cut again, diagonally and then horizontally along the plastic bottle bottom. What should be left is a flower shape.

step 3 Shape

This is the correct shape

step 4 Decorate!

Now you are ready to decorate! I have used paint and vintage buttons, but really, you could use all sorts of things: glitter, decoupage, fabric, what ever!

step 5 Glue on the clip

Once you have decorated, you are ready to glue on your clip. I use clips intended for clip on earrings, so they will not harm your shoe or clothes.

I have not found a superglue yet that will adhere metal to plastic without quickly falling apart, so I put a tiny little piece of fabric between the clip and the plastic bottom to ensure it is secure.
