Rig up a rain barrel to catch rainwater from your gutters and use that to water your flowers, lawn, garden this summer. Use a heavy grade plastic drum that won’t let light in which will speed the growth of algae. Cover the barrel with mosquito netting to keep it from becoming a breading ground for insects.
Use disease and pest resistant plants in your garden instead of pesticides. ‘Good’ plants include: basil, marigolds, mint and chives. Use traps and barriers or remove pests physically.
