Eco Tip of the Week: Barrel of Savings

Eco tip submitted by Leatherwood Designs

Rain barrels are a great way to ‘recycle’, collecting rain water to reduce the use of treated drinking water on your lawn, garden or landscaping.

A rain barrel is a tank used to harvest and store rain water runoff, generally from a roof via a downspout. Especially as drought restrictions become more common, many people use rain barrels to collect rain water during wetter months for use during the drier months.

After the initial cost of installation, the water collected and used is free. The wise use of water for lawn, landscape and garden watering helps conserve and protect a valuable resource, protect the environment, and saves money.
