Themed Nomination – Random Acts of Kindness Week

I fell in love with the words “Random Act of Kindness” the first time I heard them; I think everyone did.

It is now an actual movement with an actual week (February 15th – 21st) dedicated to spreading kindness through tiny little things.

Years ago, hubby and I (he was hubby-to-be then) were in a drug store buying tape or batteries or some kind of last minute something or other on Christmas Eve. There was a little boy, maybe 9 or 10 years old, in line ahead of us buying a ceramic angel for his mom. We got outside to our bike at the same time this little boy got to his on the other side of the parking lot.

It was very cold and it was very quiet and we heard the boy’s bag fall and we heard his ceramic angel break. He was standing very still staring at the bag on the ground (looking a bit like a broken angel himself).

I ran back into the store (which was just about to close) and hubby-to-be ran over to the little boy. He actually had to chase the boy for several blocks- the kid must have thought some crazy guy was after him and we were all half freezing when we finally caught up with each other.

The crying boy didn’t want to take the new angel I had bought and we had to tell him that I actually collected broken angels (which is kind of true, now that I think about it) and that I really, really wanted the broken one. The boy finally rode off with his new angel and a half smile and a wave and hubby-to-be and I did pop-a-wheelies all the way home (I also knew that hubby-to-be was hubby-to-be that night).

So, for this week’s themed nomination let’s think of something we can do for next week’s Random Acts of Kindness Week or something we have done before and then find a team member’s item to represent it like these gorgeous angel wing earrings by BarkerBell remind me of my angel with her broken wings, that still sits on my dresser.

You can do a tag search on Etsy for ‘all items’ and then type in ‘teamecoetsy’ to find an item or items you’d like to nominate for the week’s theme.

Please send your nominations by Etsy convo to Cat at Polarity

The deadline is NOON EST Tuesday (tomorrow).

Winners will be chosen based on:

1. Picture Quality
2. Appropriateness to the Theme
3. Originality

Happy Random Acts of Kindness Week EcoEtsy!

  1. I love your angel story. Brought a smile to my face : )

  2. That's a lovely story. I teach in a school where a student was tragically shot to death a couple of years ago. She left a legacy of kindness in our community, so whenever we hear "Random Acts of Kindness", we always think of Emily. (-:

    Awwwwww! :)

  4. What an absolutely beautiful story!! And what a great way to make the realization about your then-to-be-husband! This inspires me to not only do random acts of kindness, but to go out and seek opportunities to do so! Thank you! :)
