Themed Nomination – The Art of Letter Writing

I received a letter the other day.

I know that doesn’t sound very remarkable, but it wasn’t an email, or a Facebook message, nor was it a letter from the bank. It was a beautifully  hand written letter for me personally on real lined paper in dark blue ink written with a fountain pen. It was sent to me by my friend in England, via Royal Mail, with a Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore stamp. It made my day! Make that my week, since it came to me from such a dear friend so far away.

This week’s theme focuses on the art of letter writing. I’m thinking of the amazing variety of  envelopes, cards and other correspondence related items from EcoEtsy team members.  With Christmas coming up this may include festive cards as well. Many of these have been repurposed from magazines, maps and even postage stamps, like this mini stationery set from Marmalime.

Mini postage stamp stationery set with recycled envelopes made from vintage atlas pages by Marmalime.

I look forward to receiving  your nominations. You can do a tag search on Etsy for ‘teamecoetsy’ to find an item or items you’d like to nominate and please send your nominations via Etsy convo to Morgen at Kootsac.

The deadline is 2PM EST on Wednesday.

  1. handwritten letters are still existing and it is something priceless and very beautiful.
    I love this theme!!!!
Thank you and I trust it will inspire a few letters – no matter how many words they are, they still give joy!
I did my nomination and eco etsy team members have got lots to offer for letter lovers.
    ENJOY!

  2. oh! Handwriting, stamps, envelopes (of so many shapes colors and sizes)… papers (of many weights and colors and textures). Watermarks, wax seals, the scent of a loved ones home. A small enclosure…. The multi-sensory appeal of letter writing– long may it live.

  3. this is close to my own heart .. letter writing ..even just send a card with a few handwritten words is so very special

  4. Outrageous! I am truly inspired by snail mail and have a handful of pen pals. I ran across a site which is dedicated to letter writing. http://16sparrows.typepad.com/letterwritersalliance/
    Hats off to the ponies!

  5. Wow! I can’t remember the last time I got an actual letter in the mail. We treasure my mother’s letters, written during World War II while separated from her husband. I don’t suppose our children will have that memory of many of us. Let’s bring letters back!!

  6. What a lovely theme! The art of letter writing is becoming a lost art, and how I regret it. My cousin in Chicago sends me real letters, and I love them. There is something about a letter written by a person’s own hand that imparts a piece of oneself to another. Thank you for your part in keeping this dying art alive!
