Watch TEDxGreatPacificGarbagePatch Stream LIVE Talk today

Today is a special day in the fight for reducing plastic in our world. Plastic Pollution Coalition is airing it’s TEDxGreatPacificGarbagePatch talk LIVE all day today from 8:30 AM to 6 PM.

And I personally know one person who is giving the talk.

Beth Terry of FakePlasticFish. And she’s a fan of Team Eco Etsy!!

I met her at BlogHer10 in NYC this past summer. What an inspiring person she is. She was moved by Chris Jordan’s Midway: a Message from the Midway of plastic filled dead albatross from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and decided to refuse plastic in her life. She has a passionate blog about her journey to reduce plastic and she will be speaking today along with other great visionaries in this fight to reduce plastic on our planet.
Some of the speakers include:

Chris Jordan - the photographer who took the infamous pictures of carcasses filled with plastic from The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
Ed Begley Jr. -actor and an activist
Fabien Cousteau - Third generation explorer and an activist and a founder of Plant A Fish, an organization dedicated to restoring our ocean
Ken Cook – President and Co-Founder of the Environmental Working Group

And many more….

Plastic Pollution Coalition

Plastic Pollution Coalition is a global alliance of individuals, organizations and businesses working together to stop plastic pollution and its toxic impacts on humans, animals and the environment. Plastic Pollution seeks to put plastic pollution at the forefront of global social, environmental and political discourse.

Disposable plastics are the greatest source of plastic pollution. Follow the “4 Rs” of sustainable living: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. And Plastic Pollution Coalition established a pledge that we can take and say NO to disposable plastics!  For tips on alternatives visit Plastic Pollution Coalition’s Get Started page but also sign and take the ”I take the REFUSE Pledge” here.

And watch the LIVE Stream here, all day today.

I live a simple life. But want to spread the message that green living is easy if you weave it into your life and choose the right products. So I co-founded Green Sisterhood, a network of green female content writers whose mission is to change the market and to introduce you to wonderful green companies. I also share eco tips, fun DIY's and enviro news on ecokaren. I sell handmade goodies in my Etsy shop and help others open Etsy businesses as a handmade educator. You can connect with me on Facebook , Twitter, Pinterest and on Google +. I'd love to hear from you.

  1. Ed Begly Jr. said it best yesterday on TEDx when he said, “Recycling is like putting lipstick on a pig.” Yes, we can recycle some plastic but it’s still plastic production. We have to reduce plastic production if we don’t want to be oil dependent.

We can try our best to reduce plastic and that includes refusing single use plastic bags at the grocery store and minimize plastic packaged goods. And yes, growing foods and buying bulk is definitely a way to minimize plastic in our lives.

You can see the videos on TEDx or here.

  2. Thanks for the info about Tedx. Even though I crochet with plastic bags to keep them out of the landfill, I still can’t kick the habit altogether. It’s so overwhelming to go to the grocery store and buy groceries that aren’t wrapped in plastic. I will continue to try and grow more food. Thanks again, Juanita aka juani1
