Desertification is the process by which fertile land becomes desert, typically as a result of drought, deforestation, and inappropriate agriculture.
The forests and trees anchor ecosystems, and with real threats of land desertification and climate change, millions of people right now are facing food and water scarcity and extreme poverty, to pinpoint just a couple issues that face us globally. There are 2 billion people who live in the dry lands of the world, and the World Day to Combat Desertification brings global awareness to such a crucial matter.
