Repurposing Plastics – Let’s get Crafty

The lovely LindaEve started this Earth-inspired week off with a wonderful post on monday – The Truth About Plastics. The industry of creating plastics and even recycling plastics is a disgusting, environmentally disastrous reality that is destroying our environment. So what can we do about it? Avoid it whenever possible! But I admit that is very hard to avoid 100% of the time. Most of us are doomed to end up with some plastics in our lives… so REPURPOSE it!

In my opinion, repurposing your plastics into something useful, inspiring, or just plain pretty is the best thing you can do with your plastics. Instead of throwing them back into the vicious plastic cycle, turn your plastic into something awesome! Do you have any tutorials on how to reuse plastic?

  1. I am in awe of this super fabulous green house! OMG

    • It is SO cool!!! And easy too! I definitely want to make this happen when I get some land or a community garden :)

  2. The plastic spoon chrysanthemum mirror is so unique!

  3. Wow! A plastic bottle greenhouse. That’s some creative recycling. Great idea though. think the sleeve idea is more my speed. I have some bright yellow cat litter bags in the basement, might have to give it a try.

    • The laptop sleeve idea is so cool! I haven’t done any plastic fusing (intentionally) before so let me know how it goes if you do it! :) It looks awesome.

  5. Thank you so much for including my Chrysanthemum mirrors!!

  6. Dez, what a great collection of inspiring ideas! That greenhouse is just incredible. Thanks for a wonderful post!

    • The greenhouse blew my mind a little! All you need is a wood frame and a whole lot of plastic bottles! There are actually a few tutorials on how to make one and I hope to make my own once my family is blessed with some land to live on. :) Glad you like the ideas!

      • I need a green house but that’s a lot of plastic bottles! And same color too. That would be tricky….But great idea!

        • The woman who built that greenhouse had her neighbors and friends save bottles for here and I think it took about 700 of them. I saw some greenhouses made from different sizes of plastic bottles so that would work too! :) You can do it if you set your mind to it!
